Philadelphia has always been a smart city excited by science and learning. The Franklin Institute never fails to feed our craving, and this season the museum added two permanent exhibits that illuminate the power of science. Electricity gives visitors an opportunity to learn all about the natural phenomena through hands-on installations.  With a display of Benjamin Franklin’s own collection of studies in electricity and with demonstrations of how communities can become more energy-efficient, Electricity reaches into the past and looks into the future of one of our most invaluable resources. A truly exciting highlight of the exhibit is the Sustainable Dance Floor. Here, museum-goers literally light up the dance floor with their moves. When there’s enough energy generated, a spectacular overhead electrical light show begins. Changing Earth is an in-depth exploration of environmental science. Descend into the Earth’s atmosphere as you walk through a massive fog curtain and examine the stunning satellite-imaged globe that tells our world’s history, before humans or animals ever existed. Crawl through magma into the center of the Earth or feel the tremors of an earthquake while learning about what goes on beneath the surface. With a focus on how we can positively impact our planet’s future by making the right eco-friendly choices, Changing Earth is an interactive experience that will leave you in awe.
