PIFA: Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts
April 7th to May 1st, Citywide
PIFA celebrates the spirit of artistic collaboration. In this moment, art takes the world’s stage in Philadelphia, as it did in Paris a century ago.Join the movement.
Inspired by the bohemian revolution in Paris from 1910 and 1920, the festival transforms Philadelphia into a citywide canvas, stage and studio. Experience innovative partnerships between local and international artists and explore traditional and emerging art forms in music, dance, theater and film. More than 100 performances take the city by storm in our most celebrated cultural institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Runways in an art museum, dance parties under the sparkling Eiffel Tower in the Kimmel Center and free programming that lasts until the wee hours of the morning are all part of what makes PIFA our city’s must-see-and-do of the season. Music, dance, theater, fashion, food, and more - it’s all here:
- Experience a once-in-a-lifetime production by the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet for a night of history-making music and dance with “Pulcinella Alive.” (April 7-10, The Kimmel Center)
- ?uestlove , the drummer from Philadelphia’s hometown genre-defying group The Roots, presents “Philly-Paris Lockdown.” This is an exploration of Parisian music-makers fomr the early 1900s, including Satie, Debussy, Ravel, and Stravinsky, infused with hip-hop style. Joined by international singer-songwriter Keren Ann, ?uestlove will give audiences an audio-visual history of bohemian Paris with a jolt of modern Philadelphia soul. (April 17, The Kimmel Center)
- Extend your adventure outdoors! Philadelphia’s parks and sidewalks are filled to the brim with art. Marvel at the PIFA Video Cube on the Avenue of the Arts, take in the breathtaking photo series of How Philly Moves, the grand project of the world-famous Philadelphia Mural Arts Program or take a trapeze class with the Fly School Circus.
