Find Fun at Franklin Square
The most identifying feature of Franklin Square is the Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, our City was the carousel capital of the country with the three eminent creators - Philadelphia Toboggan Company, Dentzel, and D.C. Muller & Bro. - all headquartered here.
The park also invites all visitors to try their putting skills on the 18-hole Philadelphia-themed miniature golf course. Windmills and waterfalls are replaced by some of our City's most prominent monuments and icons, including the Chinatown Friendship Arch, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Elfreth's Alley. The course ends when you hit the ball through the famous crack in the Liberty Bell in front of a model Independence Hall.
A welcoming oasis tucked inside the bustling city, this beautiful
green space, revitalized and reopened in the summer of 2006, also
offers two state-of-the-art playgrounds, storytelling benches, sand
sculptures, a historic fountain, and the Living Flame Memorial for
Philadelphia's fallen police officers and firefighters.
For food, Steven Starr has partnered with Historic Philadelphia, Inc.
to open a premiere burger and hot dog stand. People can enjoy
milkshakes, sodas, salads, and even gelato at tables and picnic benches
throughout the park.
Franklin Square is located at 6th & Race streets. For more information, hours, and a list of special events this season, visit www.onceuponanation.org.
