Philadelphia International Flower Show
March 4-11, 2012 | Pennsylvania Convention Center
Hawaii: Islands of Aloha
March 4-11, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center
In 2011, the Philadelphia will unite a planet of flowers with the World Garden Party - a convention and celebration of floral displays from around the world.
After passing through the entrance arrangement, paying homage to our own nation's passion for growing flowers and vegetables, visitors will wind through worlds of Showcase Gardens bringing the horticultural beauty from faraway and exotic lands to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Unique displays will range from Brazil to South Africa, Holland to New Zealand, Singapore to India. And the cultural experience is not limited to the beauty of plants. Distinct foods, wines, and music from each region will accompany you as you navigate the magical maze of sights and smells.
About
During the first week of March, with spring just on the horizon, more than 250,000 horticulturalists, gardeners, and beauty lovers alike flock to the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the annual Philadelphia International Flower Show - the largest flower show in the world. Held since 1829, this Philadelphia tradition is the oldest indoor flower show in the nation. During this weeklong extravaganza, the Pennsylvania Convention Center is transformed into a horticulturalist's heaven. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has organized the spectacle every year, using all proceeds to support its outreach programs, including Philadelphia Green.
Events
The floral displays are just the beginning!
- The night before the show opens, A “black tie” Preview Reception and Dinner is held. Guests are invited to spend their evening getting a sneak peak at this year's displays with a side of hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
- More than 100 vendors from around the world open shop at the Marketplace to sell their flowers and gardening tools. A full lineup of educational lectures and culinary demonstrations are held each day, with experts sharing their insights on everything from floral arrangements to cuisines.
- All week long, a Garden Tea is served twice a day in a picturesque indoor garden.
More Than Just A Show
While the Flower Show is a display of beauty, it is also a competition for coveted ribbons. Every year, the show receives more than 3,000 entries for almost 600 artistic and horticultural competitive classes.
Not only do flower lovers come from all around the world to partake in this tradition, but the Flower Show is a tremendous time for local pride. A vast majority of the landscape displays are designed by local horticulturalists and enthusiasts.
Be sure to bring a pad and pencil to jot down any flowers or displays you like in particular. And don't forget comfy footwear and a coat - the flowers like a cooler environment.
