National Soccer Coaches Association Of America To Hold 63rd Annual Convention In Philadelphia January 13-17
MLS and Women’s Professional Soccer drafts among the highlights
WHAT: The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) convention will provide opportunities for soccer coaches at all levels of the game to learn more about coaching their sport. Attendees will have socialization and networking opportunities and access to vendors with the newest advances in goods and services related to the soccer industry.Among the highlights: Major League Soccer (MLS) will hold its SuperDraft on Thursday, January 14, from 1-5:30 p.m. in the Pennsylvania Convention Center Ballroom. Philadelphia Union begins MLS play this spring. On Friday, January 15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) holds its draft in the Ballroom. This spring, the Philadelphia Independence will compete in the WPS for this first time.
Former University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer coach and athletic director Charlie Scott, who is the lone surviving founder of the NSCAA, will receive his 70-year membership pin at the awards banquet at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15, in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown’s Grand Ballroom. The Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund will be present its 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award to former Temple and Penn State coach Walter Bahr on Saturday, January 16, at noon in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown’s Grand Ballroom.
In addition, there will be information booths about Philadelphia’s bid to host World Cup Soccer FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 or 2022. Philadelphia learned on January 12 it was one of 18 finalist U.S. cities.
