Where Life Meets Science- September 2, 2008
FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BONNIE GRANTAs a cancer warrior and survivor, I know firsthand what it means to have access to the best diagnosis and treatment options. These options get better every year, largely because of frontline research taking place in the Greater Philadelphia region. To move more groundbreaking research “out of the lab and into the clinic,” an unprecedented fundraising initiative has been launched with television networks, entertainment executives and celebrities. This week – Friday, September 5 – the ABC, CBS and NBC television networks will donate a commercial-free hour of simultaneous primetime programming called Stand Up 2 Cancer (SU2C), a live fundraising event aimed at nothing less than ending cancer's reign as a leading cause of death.
Dr. Margaret Foti, CEO of American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and member of GPLSC, will be front and center because AACR, headquartered in Philadelphia, is the organization that will provide the scientific oversight, expert peer review, and grants administration for SU2C. You can help by tuning in this Friday at 8 p.m. EST and also by visiting www.standup2cancer.org
