Philadelphia Welcomes FIE Congress
Philadelphia Hospitality Leaders to Welcome International Fencing Conference; Only international sports federation to meet in the United States this year
WHAT: Philadelphia hospitality and business leaders will welcome US Olympic Committee leadership and international delegates of the 2011 Federation Internationale d’Escrime (FIE) Congress, as the conference begins in Philadelphia. The FIE is the only international sports federation hosting its annual meeting in the U.S. this year.The FIE Congress in Philadelphia is the result of a partnership between the FIE, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), USA Fencing (USAF), the Philadelphia Sports Congress (PSC) and the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB).
Fencing, the art or practice of attack and defense with the foil, épee, or saber, is only one of four sports to be included in every modern Olympic Games dating back to 1896 (including track & field, swimming and gymnastics).
