GLBT Information

Philadelphia isn’t only known as the birthplace of American freedom. The city is also home to gay history and significant sites. Some of the nation’s first gay rights protests – before the Stonewall Riots in New York City – happened right here in Philadelphia. These protests were held during the “Annual Reminders” every July 4th from 1965 to 1969 in front of Independence Hall.

Today, Philadelphia’s gay community continues to be active and influential in business, political, and social circles. Special events for the gay community are plentiful throughout the year and a long list of gay and lesbian businesses have active memberships.
